The MTA is making lots of service changes in the next couple of weeks. One of them is the elimination of te V line, which usually runs along 6th Ave with the B, D, and F lines. Instead, they are extending the M train and changing its color designation. So, at 6th Ave and 14th St, you can now see the following sign:

In case you didn’t know, FML can stand for “F*ck My Life.”
Unfortunately, the MTA doesn’t have a sense of humor, and is working to change the order of the signs.

Barclay Bank, the British bank that bought the naming rights to the infamous Atlantic Yards arena, also bought the naming rights to the closest train station.

What shocked me the most was the cost. $200G over 10 years? I have a feeling if enough people in Brooklyn organized, we could come up with $30k/year to get the name switched back.

A bunch of us, including my brother, sister-in-law, their friends and Kevin were walking down DeKalb Ave from Red Bamboo (I think I’ve made new converts… nothing beats Soul Chicken, except for real chicken).
We were walking by Brooklyn Hospital when I saw a garbage can on fire in their lot. We tried the first door we could see to alert their security, but it was locked. We’d have to go by the burning garbage to get to the entrance, so my brother called 911 while I called 411 (to get the number for the hospital). I dialed 0 for the operator, told them their garbage can was on fire. I was transferred to someone else who immediately tried to put me on hold. I told them “there’s a fire!” but they still put me on hold. A minute later, I told them about the fire, and they told me to put it out. I tried to explain that I was outside the hospital and they should come with a fire extinguisher and put the fire out. My brother, finished dealing with 911, took the phone from me. He was told that the person on the other end of the line was not security.
Meanwhile, some random dude kicked the garbage can down, making the fire even worse.
Eventually, hospital security came out with extinguishers and stared at the fire for a while. It was only when the fire truck was getting near the hospital that they decided to use the damned thing and put the fire out. We were already on our way to the train station, shaking our heads and wondering if the dude who kicked the garbage can had started the fire in the first place.
I tried to take pics with Kevin’s phone, as my phone’s camera was frozen; we’ll see how they come out.
